THE COMPUT-A-THON PROGRAM

     The COMPUT-A-THON Program is a computerized spell-a-thon, read-a-thon, hit-a-thon, kick-a-thon,  jog-a-thon etc. etc. etc.

Our customers net profit is generally double what they make on our candy, magazine or other product sales.  The average net profit for public schools and youth athletic groups is over $40 per participant.  For private schools, over $50 per participant.

Participants do not go door to door or handle money!

OUTLINE OF PROGRAM

    1.  The organization decides to use the program and submits the license agreement. (see link below)  They then appoint a Comput-A-Thon director (school administrator, teacher, PTA fundraising chair person or other adult selected by the administration.)

The CAT Director will coordinate the program with a very helpful representative of the licensing company, Comput-A-Thon, Inc. (see link below), who will provide all necessary support.

The CAT Director will need several volunteers to help issue sponsor letters to the participants and to mail these letters when returned by the participants. A volunteer or two will also distribute the prizes to participants who earned them.

    2.  The Comput-A-Thon, Inc. representative will get the necessary information to personalize a sponsor letter for the organization.  The sponsor letter is one key to this immensely successful fundraising program.
(see link below to see sample letter.) The representative will arrange to have the sponsor letters printed, padded and delivered to the organization.

    3. A short assembly is held about one month before the test to explain the program to the participants. One of our representatives will be available to explain the program at this assembly if the organization wishes, or it can be done by the CAT Director.

The participants are then given one week to address their letters to any adult they know, anywhere in the world, who might sponsor them in this event.  Participants turn addressed letters in to the mailing committee who stamps and mails them to prospective sponsors.

The participants do only two things, address letters and take part in the event.

    4.  The sponsor letter is a two-way mailing piece.  Prospective sponsors can discard the letter or sign it and return it -- as a pledge to pay a checked amount for each unit completed.  The sponsor letter returns to our bonded trustee for entry into a main frame computer.  (For Trustee information, click the link below.)

    5.  The event takes place on the appointed date and the completed participant log (see link below) is sent to the Trustee.  A computer generated bill is then sent to the sponsors thanking them for their support and informing them of the amount of their pledge.  The Trustee then sends the organization a computer print out showing, participant by participant, the pledges received and the amount pledged.

The sponsor places the bill stub and a check in the return envelope provided and returns it to theTrustee. The Trustee deposits all proceeds in the school trust account.

    6.  The Trustee then pays the expenses incurred so far out of first moneys received.  This will take place about two weeks after the event and will include:

a.  The postage applied by the school to the outgoing sponsor letters.
b.  The postage applied by the data processor on the outgoing bills.
c.  The printing of the sponsor letters.
d.  The prizes awarded to the students.
e.  Any out of pocket expenses agreed upon by the organization.

    7.  One month after the event the Trustee will pay the license fee to Comput-A-Thon, Inc. The fee is 20% of the gross receipts.

This license fee covers payment by Comput-A-Thon, Inc. of the following:

    A.  The support of the Comput-A-Thon, Inc. representative assigned to assist the Comput-A-ThonDirector.
    B.  The services of the Trustee such as, receiving and sorting pledges and payments, data entry, generating, sorting and mailing bills and dispersing funds.
    C. The cost of the billing forms and other forms provided by Comput-A-Thon, Inc. and overhead costs.

8.  The Trustee will then pay the net profit to the organization.

9.  One second billing is done at this time to those sponsors who have not yet paid.  A computer print out is then sent to the Comput-A-Thon Director.  This print out is similar to the first and now shows payments made by sponsors and unpaid pledges.

10.  About one month after the second billing, moneys will have stopped coming in and final distribution is made, ending the fundraiser.  The license fee will be paid on moneys received after the first distribution and the remainder is net profit.  This will be sent by the Trustee to the organization.  A final report of all activity to date will now be sent to the organization and Comput-A-Thon, Inc.

POSTAGE:  Postage on the outgoing letters is the only outlay of money on the part of the organization and will be reimbursed to the organization out of first moneys received.
